CUSTOMERS OF TAXI app FreeNow have today taken to social media to highlight an issue that has resulted in discount codes being revoked from app users.
This morning, a message on the app invited users to partake in a riddle with upwards of €200 in discount vouchers being available to those who solved it.
Multiple €20 vouchers, valid until 31 January 2024, were lodged into customer’s accounts but were later removed.
Customers impacted will now be entered into an “exclusive new raffle” with a prize fund of €20,000 worth of FreeNow vouchers.
One FreeNow user told The Journal: “I decided to use it straight away as I was leaving the city centre but when I applied it, it didn’t work.”
Some app users, such as the CEO of SpunOut Ian Power, had amassed €200 worth of vouchers which he said have since been removed.
I think @FreeNow_IE are having a ‘mare this morning. Ran a Friday competition to solve riddles. First 100 get 10 x €20 vouchers valid to 31/01/24. I got in there pretty quickly. Had the vouchers applied. But like others, they’ve been removed. Not ideal. pic.twitter.com/eGMOCeb0yE

In a statement to The Journal, a spokesperson for FreeNow explained that earlier today, FreeNow launched a passenger raffle offering vouchers to the first 100 users who solved an in-app Christmas riddle.
However, there was a technical issue with the raffle on the app and vouchers were issued beyond the first 100 winners.
“We express our sincere apologies for any confusion or inconvenience caused to passengers as a result of this technical issue which has since been resolved,” said the spokesperson.
The FreeNow spokesperson added that the “first 100 raffle winners will all receive their prize vouchers” and that “vouchers allocated to anyone outside this group due to the technical issue were retracted”.
Passengers who submitted correct answers and were given vouchers which were later revoked will now be entered into an “exclusive new raffle.”
“Any passengers who submitted the correct answer to our raffle today and were incorrectly allocated vouchers, will now be automatically entered into an exclusive new raffle which we are launching this afternoon with a prize fund of €20,000 worth of FreeNow vouchers, ranging from €5 to €1000,” said FreeNow.
