Patients’ details could be shared between Dublin maternity hospitals

Discussions have begun over the possible introduction of an integrated computer and patient information system to be shared between Dublin’s three maternity hospitals.

DISCUSSIONS HAVE BEGUN on a project that would see the introduction of an integrated computer and patient information system to be shared between Dublin’s three maternity hospitals.

According to Ailbhe Jordan’s exclusive in the Medical Independent today, representatives of the three maternity hospitals and the HSE met in June to discuss the project.

Documents released to the publication under the Freedom of Information Act showed that questions regarding funding for the existing service maintenance contract with the company McKesson had been, but these have been subsequently resolved and funding has been put in place.

The June meeting reportedly accepted a request for the Coombe to implement the technology first “due to concerns regarding the hospital’s hardware”.
