7 up and coming Irish comedians to look out for
We’re talking funny ha-ha here.
AH LIFE. IF you don’t laugh, you’ll cry, right?
Well, we don’t want any crying around these parts, so we’ve rounded up seven of the best up and coming Irish comedians for you to watch out for.
Whether they’re standups, masters of the comedic tweets or YouTube superstars, check out their work below.
You’ll laugh. Oh, how you’ll laugh.
1. Eleanor Tiernan
Eleanor Tiernan has supported Tommy Tiernan, Stewart Lee, Reginald D Hunter, Tig Notaro, Neil Delamere, Jason Byrne, Ardal O’Hanlon, and Pantibliss – so you know she’s good.
She describes her style of comedy as ‘Free range, organic, no added preservatives. Dead pan. I’m aiming for opium but it’s probably low grade heroin.’
So there you have it.
2. Conor O’Toole
Conor writes and acts as well as doing stand up and he’s working on a new show for the Edinburgh and Dublin Fringe festivals called, ‘Conor O’Toole: A Retrospective 1995-2015.’
He’s also written and acted in a number of films, one of which won a Best Writing award.
3. Aisling Bea
Fresh from winning the Best Female TV Comedian at the 2014 British Comedy Awards (yup, she’s still Irish though), Aisling Bea, writer, actor, comedian and all-round person, is flying high with three Edinburgh Festival previews coming up as well as doing lots of stand up and TV appearances on shows like QI, Eight of Ten Cats, and Live at the Apollo.
4. Foil Arms and Hog
These three guys have been on quite the comedic world takeover – recently selling out their sixth Edinburgh festival and returning from a successful Statewide tour with a sold-out show in Dublin.
You may recognise them from their stints on The Savage Eye and The Craig Doyle Show or maybe the clip below will jog your memory.
5. Seán Connolly
YouTube comedy star, Sean Connolly, aka The Sonic Screw, tweets and makes videos that delight the nation. He has nearly 9000 subscribers and his videos vary from parodies, to film retellings to inebriated cooking shows.
Each to their own, we say.
6. Alison Spittle
Alison has made videos for The Republic of Telly as well as featuring on RTE’s New Comedy Awards.
She’s also written and acted in a few other videos with some other up and coming comedians – you might notice her in the video of another of our entries… keep your eyes peeled.
7. Damon Blake
Born in the States, but here for so long we’ll claim him for one of our own, Damon writes, acts and does stand-up. He’s written for RTE and has appeared on Newstalk, RTE 2FM, Dublin City FM, and Phantom FM.
He splits his time between Dublin and San Francisco, so we’re allowed to hate him, a little.
